With a science degree from Dublin City University, Darren has worked and lived all over the world including as a forensic scientist in the UK and a molecular biologist in Australia.
Creativity has always been one of his strengths and after several years of working in the laboratory, he hung up his lab coat for a position in marketing. This move allowed him to combine his technical background with innovative skills.
"I find it very rewarding to learn and understand scientific products and ideas and convert them into different types of communications and marketing products, such as promotional videos, copy for brochures and emails, technical user manuals and websites to name a few. I have worked in the biotechnology, IT and scientific publishing sectors. Whether it's nucleic acid labelling kits, EMV payment test tools or scientific journals I can always step into the shoes of the end user and understand what's important to them."
This strength was best demonstrated when he won first prize in a competition at Elsevier that was looking for new ideas for mobile apps that could aid scientists in reading and disseminate research. His idea for the Poster in my Pocket app was later developed and is now available from both the iTunes and GooglePlay App stores. It has been used at conferences all over the world.
"Oh yes, and I love writing in my spare time ;-)"
